Those who find themselves granted residence permits in Sweden currently receive permit stickers affixed into their passports. Beginning from 20 May 2011, stickers are going to be replaced with a residence permit card (UT card).

All permits granted after 20 May will probably be issued as residence permit cards. The card will contain biometrics (photo and fingerprints of two fingers) with an electronic signature.

Holders of residence permit stickers which are valid after 20 May need not exchange these when UT cards are introduced. The stickers are valid before the date of expiry, yet not after 20 May 2015.
